The Water tower in Eden Park designed by the renowned Hannaford & Sons was made in 1894 to look like a castle keep...gargoyles,spiral staircase, and hand operated elevator to boot. For a mere nickel during Cincinnati's "Golden Age " patrons could ride the elevator to the top of the turret to an observation platform 997 feet above sea level .It functioned as a pressure tank to pump water to Walnut Hills . It was also used as a secret Police sub-station(more on this later) and by 1912 it was no longer in use.The copper sheathed steeple was scraped during WWII as a donation to the war efforts. The beautiful structure still commands the view at Eden Park and perhaps with some luck one day it will be open to the public again (hint, hint)
